The Master's Degree Course in Engineering for the Food Industry has the following specific objectives:
- the creation of a figure with a solid background in the sectors that characterise the design of machines for the food industry, the design and operation of plants for the food industry and the management of food production processes;
- the complementary emphasis on in-depth study of packaging and its sustainability, simulative models to support the design and operation of plants for the food industry and related activities in the food industry.
The training course of the Master's Degree is composed of a first year aimed at the subjects of the disciplinary scientific sectors of the food industry such as: Food Hygiene, Agricultural Microbiology, Food Science and Technology. This is in order to deepen the basic knowledge of the food industry not belonging to the three-year degree in Engineering, in order to deal appropriately with the more specialized and applicative disciplines of the following year. The first year is completed by courses characterising Food Industry Plants, General Plant Services and Machinery for the Food Industry as well as a course on heat exchange and mass exchange. The second year includes a single curriculum, with subjects related to the characterising and related sectors, with courses on design, automation and production management, with the aim of deepening specific topics and offering the graduate an adequate preparation to carry out his or her future work or to deepen his or her training in PhD and Master courses. The course is completed with the Activities chosen by the student and other activities with the possibility of working in laboratories for practical experience and to carry out an internship with companies in the sector. An English language proficiency test is also provided in order to ensure adequate knowledge before entering the world of work. Ample space is left to work on the preparation of the thesis for the Master's Degree, where the student is required to make a considerable effort to prepare an essay with high level technical and scientific content.
